Brian Brawdy Show to Launch at The Rally

July 13, 2010 by Brian Brawdy · 4 Comments

Little more than a week away, The Rally is fast approaching. I’m heading towards Louisville next Monday to set the SRMR in position for one of the biggest shows in my RV’ing year. The Self Reliant Mobile Residence is my “Just In Case Place.” When “IT” hits, tornado or terrorist attack, man-made or those disasters wrought by Mother Nature the rig is ready to go and stay gone. I designed the SRMR to be fully functional while “Off The Grid” be it boondocking or bugging out, sojourning or surviving. In addition, the Self-Reliant Mobile Residence is a full radio/tv production studio. I have chosen one of my favorite events, The Rally, to launch the Brian Brawdy Show. RVers are the quintessential “off the grid gang” and epitomize the nomadic, self-reliant mindset that will be the focus of my show. With thought provoking attitude about the news of the day, special guests interviews and discussions, the show will focus on surviving and thriving in a century where political, economic, environmental and meteorological challenges face us all. We will be streaming live from the main entrance of the Expo Center daily so stop by and give me your feedback. Please join me at The Rally or in the meantime @brianbrawdy.com Join Brian on Facebook Follow Brian on Twitter  Read More →

California Set to Make RVers Criminals

May 19, 2010 by Brian Brawdy · 48 Comments

By Brian Brawdy This stinks – literally. Once again, politicians busy themselves pandering to constituencies all the while ignoring scientific facts. The latest proposal comes from the State of California and Assemblyman Bill Monning, a Democrat from Santa Cruz. The legislation, AB 1824, would ban the use of holding tank products containing bronopol, dowicil, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, paraformaldehyde and para-dichlorobenzene, according to the proposed bill. Why Our Next President Should Be an RVer

April 21, 2010 by Brian Brawdy · 15 Comments

By Brian Brawdy I’ve spent just about two years now RVing full-time in my Lance Truck Camper. I’ve traveled to 48 states and three Provinces in Canada as well. Most of the TV and radio interviews I participate in, now over 150, I’m usually asked about the “coolest places” I have been. Each time I respond the same way. “It’s not the places I’ve been, but the people I’ve met that have left an indelible mark on me.” Through the many compliments and a few criticisms, I’ve learned quite a bit. I told the audience at the Mid Atlantic Truck Camper Rally last week that I am a lot smarter now then when I first started “bringing the far away to my own front door.” RVing has taught me a ton. Sadly, I wasn’t all that bright when I first began so, I still have a bunch of catching up to do. Perhaps my most powerful lesson comes from the common thread and underlying attitude of most RVers; THEY GET IT DONE. It takes a certain craftiness, a unique creativity to take to the open road, to “handle” whatever comes up, and to adjust your sights along the way. I’ve also learned through countless “fireside focus groups” that RVers would make great government officials. They see a problem, they fix it; there’s not much “running from anything” in you folks. You put your seat belts on, set your gaze and you get there! I think our Senators, Representatives and even our next... Read more

From Bookdocking to Bugging Out, the SRMR covers it all

April 13, 2010 by Brian Brawdy · 1 Comment

by Brian Brawdy I like to think of it as my “Just in Case Place.” Balanced between wanting to boondock or needing to bug out, the SRMR (Self Reliant Mobile Residence) has multiple functions. From the moment I began RVing, I realized the duel purposes of recreating on the one hand and evacuating on the other. There is no better way to bolt to somewhere or from something. Family vacationing emergency vacating, your home away from home can be a perfect base camp, wherever you find yourself. In a few short weeks I will be launching 3 videos here on RV.net highlighting the engineering and building of the SRMR. Read more  Read More →

Brian Brawdy’s Latest Entry to the Boondocking World

February 25, 2010 by Brian Brawdy · 23 Comments

In my opening two years I tremendously enjoyed boondocking and dry camping in my Lance Camper and learned first hand that once self-reliant camping gets in your blood, it’s hard to shake it. Inspired by a Bob Difley seminar at The Rally last year in Albuquerque, I decided to create my next generation RV. In creating this example of mobile independence, I relied on the cutting-edge engineering and expertise from the best manufacturers and suppliers in the alternative energy and RV industries who push the sustainable energy envelope. I have created a one-of-a-kind RV that exemplifies energy independence and self-reliance. The tandem rig is designed to go off road and off the grid. Engineered with eleven solar panels capable of collecting over 1250 watts of solar energy, three wind turbines generating over 450 watts of wind power and the ability to collect hundreds of gallons of rainwater every month that can be heated by the direct energies of the sun, the SRMR  is also equipped state-of-the-art suspension, towing, tires, bumper/winch, LED lighting and navigational equipment. A lot of people have home offices. For me, I now just tow my home with my office. Please join me on Facebook for exclusive photos and engineering mock-ups of the SRMR. Stay tuned to my Facebook page for details on the upcoming video on building the SRMR. Brian Brawdy's Tandem SRMR  Read More →

VIDEO: One Way to Secure Your RV After-Hours

October 28, 2009 by Brian Brawdy · 16 Comments

Gear to Get with Brian Brawdy Recently I got up early one morning to catch the sun rise. I jumped out of my RV and walked about twenty yards in the direction of the beach. Before I saw or heard him, I could feel someone else was there. A dark silhouette loomed in the shadows. I instantly said “Good Morning” startled a bit at his presence. Wearing a black skull cap, jacket and pants the figure stood there as I approached. Before I could get any closer, he suddenly turned and briskly walked away. Read more  Read More →

Gear to Get with Brian Brawdy One of the necessities of Green RVing, boondocking & dry camping is the ability to generate power. Boondocking Podcast with Brian Brawdy & Bob Difley

October 19, 2009 by Brian Brawdy · 16 Comments

by Brian Brawdy In my opening 18 months as an RVer, I have learned that the attraction, at least for me, is one of self reliance and nomadism. The places that I have explored and the people I have encountered have only reinforced the sense of independence one cultivates while bringing the far away to their own front door. Early on I began to feel, not that I was learning this philosophy, but that I was remembering it. That adventure and exploration are latent in the human being. Today it is my great pleasure to share with you an hour long podcast with author and fellow RVer Bob Difley. Read more  Read More →
