OUR INFATUATION WITH CAMPING WORLD
August 3, 2011 by Barry & Monique Zander · 27 Comments
By Barry Zander, Edited by Monique Zander, the Never-Bored RVers Monique and I were waiting for our pizza while sitting in a restaurant in Aspen, Colorado, when I looked across the room and noticed a 75ish man was leaning over his table, obviously distraught. He was staring down with his face between his hands. He kept that position for the whole time we were eating. When we were ready to leave, Monique went over, sat across from him in the booth and asked if there is anything we could do to help. He told her, “My wife fell when she was getting out of the motorhome. The stool turned over and she went down. She’s in the hospital now.” Obviously there was nothing we could do except express our sympathy. A few days later while in a campground in Sedona, we saw a Casita with a strong-looking aluminum step. “We got it at Camping World after our plastic one turned over,” the owner told us. We soon bought one to make our travels safer. As we speed down the grey ribbon of interstate highways in America, I don’t think anything terrifies Monique more than when I say, “We just passed a Camping World.” “You don’t need anything.” “I just want to get a 10-foot white hose.” That conversation immediately precedes the cash register showing balance due of $246.58. This is not an advertisement for Camping World – it’s strictly my thoughts about why we always manage to run up long receipts when we just stop for one or two items. Over the years... Read more
Tempflow Mattress and My Sleep Experiment
August 2, 2011 by Woodall's · 18 Comments
By Corey Grant, Woodall’s Staff Writer I take sleeping very seriously. As the days get longer and the nights get increasingly shorter, the time I have to sleep becomes more precious every day. If I don’t get a solid six hours of quality sleep a night I am irritably, groggy, sore, and basically a drain upon society. That is why choosing a mattress can become a monumental challenge. If I don’t choose a good mattress then I can say ‘good night’ to a good night’s rest, and that does not sit well with me (or my wife for that matter). So when Relief Mart contacted me about testing and reviewing the Tempflow Mattress for RVs and home, you can imagine my hesitation. Before I even took the mattress out of the packaging, I wrote up a list of the qualities I wanted in a mattress, and I decided right then and there that for me to recommend this Tempflow mattress, it would have to meet all these criteria. Support I have had my run-ins with lumpy, droopy, hard-as-rock mattresses in the past, and they were not pleasant experiences. So right off the bat, I wanted to make sure that this Tempflow Mattress had the right amount of support so I don’t fold in half, but also have enough to provide comfort. Experts at the Spine Universe research firm state that a mattress should allow the spine to assume its natural curve. Too hard a mattress, and the spine is forced into an unnatural position, but too soft, and the spine sags, and you can experience painful back... Read more

Another Step Closer to a Flying Motorhome?
August 1, 2011 by Rex Vogel · 3 Comments
A flying motorhome may be part of our new reality sooner than you think—or at least we can all dream. It’s another day, and another flying car. Hopes of the Age of the Flying Car were recently renewed with news that the Terrafugia Transition® Roadable Aircraft was deemed roadworthy by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Artists's conception of myCopter Flying Car. (Crecit: mycopter.eu) Now, another flying car is in the limelight, bringing the possibility of Personal Aerial Vehicles (PAVs) even closer to reality. So are we really approaching an era of flying cars? A new vehicle with the creative name of myCopter is being touted as a solution to the ever present problem of road congestion. The European Union is investing €4.2 million (US$6.2 million) to investigate the possibility of introducing PAVs into the skies of Europe’s most congested cities. The idea is for myCopter to attempt to solve the numerous problems that could potentially arise from futuristic flying cars. This coming age of the “flying car” where vehicles leave the roads and launch into the skies promises to solve problems like dramatically rising urban traffic congestion, but it also throws up some formidable challenges that the myCopter project attempts to address. According to Prof Heinrich Bülthoff of the Max Plank Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tubingen, Germany, the project aims “to develop technologies that could be used to form a new transportation system...
