If you use Microsoft Streets and Trips for your trip planning and GPS navigation, you probably have the free POI Megafile.  If not, you should get it.  It’s awesome – 224 Points of Interest pushpin sets – from Walmarts to hot springs and low bridges, all free.

And it’s updated all the time.  The latest update is November 2010.

What’s new in this version?

Here’s the word from the Streets and Trips developers.

New:

  • VA Hospitals – newly added!
  • Independent Truckstop locations (East half of US) – newly added
  • the formally combined Pilot/Flying J set is now split per request.

Updated:

  • Cummins Service locations – updated
  • Loves Travel Stops – updated
  • Petro Fuel stops – updated
  • Ride to Eat – updated

Show-Me-How Tutorial Video

Here’s a tutorial video to show you what the Megafile is all about and how to get it.

Note: this video is a sneak peek of the Streets and Trips Learning Series in the Geeks on Tour Learning Library – to watch all 14 S&T videos you need to be a Geeks on Tour Member.  To enlarge the video player, hover your mouse over it and you’ll see an icon of a computer screen in the lower right corner.  Click that to play full screen.

Awsome file. I have been using it for a couple of years. Last month I discovered an error and it was fixed this month. So easy to use but don’t open all the push pins that’s way too much info. Only open what you need for a particular trip.
