RV Cooking Show – Aunt Lucy’s Thanksgiving Stuffing & 3 Hidden Gem National Parks/Monuments
November 18, 2010 by Evanne Schmarder · 5 Comments
Happy Thanksgiving RV.net readers!! Growing up, this stuffing permeated my holidays. It’s the one we enjoyed when spending time with Aunt Lucy and her brood and, if we couldn’t be together that year, enjoyed at our house. It’s a staple at my Thanksgiving table all these years and miles later and one I’m not willing to compromise on. But that doesn’t mean you can’t. In fact, if it were up to my chile-lovin’ husband, we’d add roasted green chiles to this year’s batch (but not going to happen). Check out my “Additional Tips” on this episode’s webpage for ways to customize this dish or enjoy it like Aunt Lucy makes it. Either way, it’s delicious! While the stuffing is cooking I’ll take you on a quick tour of something I’m mighty thankful for – three of my favorite lesser known National Parks/Monuments – and I’ll offer my .02 on what’s not to be missed when visiting the parks. Check it out: Make our Crockpot Turkey Breast – see the video here. And don’t forget Mom’s Famous Thanksgiving Cranberry Sauce…yum! FOR the ADVENTUROUS (or simply curious): Gourmet Trash Can Turkey From all of us at the RV Cooking Show, we wish you and those you care about a memorable Thanksgiving holiday. VIDEO: Adding LED LIGHTS to Your RV!
November 17, 2010 by Sean Michael · 4 Comments
To upgrade, the philosopher Beyonce teaches us, is to live. I’m not sure if Beyonce has ever gone camping. But that’s the cool thing about owning an Airstream or any other RV — like a brick-and-mortar home, it’s a constantly evolving platform. With the simple flick of a plastic card, you can express your ideas and/or wreck your bank account. Let There Be… LED from Sean Michael on LongLongHoneymoon.com. Some upgrades are cosmetic. For example, our bathroom revamp (See, generally, Old School, New Faucet) was largely a matter of appearance (although the new faucet handles are a vast functional improvement over the originals). Every RV Owner With A Dog Should Know These Two Commands
November 14, 2010 by Adam G. Katz · 5 Comments
If you travel with your dog, knowing how to teach these two commands will make your life 1,000 times easier. Here’s how to give your dog the “bread and butter” education that every dog owner with an RV needs to know: The Come Command: Imagine being able to take your dog off leash, anywhere you go… and know that your dog will come back to you– every time you call! How can you achieve such reliablity? Well, aside from the fact that I spent almost an hour explaining the details of this technique in my dvd (available at Amazon.com) called, “How You Can Get Your Dog To Come, Every Time You Call!” – the real secret is this: Keep a training collar and a long line on your dog, everywhere you go. As in: Every type of place you might want to eventually take your dog “off leash” – instead, let him drag a long line behind him. It’s a mind-trick for the dog. See, your dog has limited logic and reason. So, if you do it right your dog won’t know the difference between a 30 foot line he’s dragging and a one foot line. If you’re consistent about making him come, every time you call him … he’ll get conditioned to come immediately. Now that you have a way to make your dog come, he’ll eventually realize it’s easier to come the first time you call, then to get a correction for not coming… and then get made to come, anyway. The Down Command: Being able to put your dog into a down-stay... Read more
Florida, Minus the Mouse
November 14, 2010 by Rex Vogel · 7 Comments
Yes, Central Florida is a family vacation paradise, home of endless theme parks, and countless cute costumed characters. But what to do when you’ve overdosed on “cuteness,” when you just can’t stomach another roller coaster ride, when the idea of one more amusement park fast food snack seems just too much to take? Well, you head for the beaches—of course! The Beachy Florida The white sands of the beaches along the Florida Panhandle. © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved Beaches account for over 1,300 miles of Florida coastline, with two distinct waterfronts—the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast and the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast. The Sunshine State’s world-famous beaches are second-to-none. Seldom do you see a “Best Beaches” list that doesn’t include at least two or more from Florida. As “Dr. Beach,” coastal expert Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, Director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research, has selected the annual Top 10 Beaches since 1991. Fifty criteria are used to evaluate beaches, which include water and sand quality as well as safety and environmental management. An internationally known coastal scientist, Dr. Leatherman has published 16 books and hundreds of scientific articles about storm impacts, erosion, and ways to improve beach health and safety. In his 20th annual (2010) Top 10 Beaches list Dr. Beach selected Siesta Beach on Siesta Key at Sarasota and number 2 and Cape Florida State Park (also known as Bill... Read more

Tires Follow-Up and Life in Death Valley
November 13, 2010 by Barry & Monique Zander · 10 Comments
By the Never-Bored RVers Apparently the Comments section was turned off for our blog article about tires three days ago [http://blog.rv.net/2010/11/a-tire-some-expense/]. At least we’ve received e-mailed comments about that. Hopefully it will be working now, so I welcome your comments about tires. Before you go off-line, I invite you to check out www.deathvalley49ers.org. Encampment Days are winding down now, and once again we’re able to prove why we’re “never-bored.” It’s a wonderful experience being among thousands of happy folks, listening to top-notch entertainers (including Belinda Gail at left); visiting with excellent artists and craftspeople; and seeing and experiencing Death Valley. All this is built around the rich, often bone-chilling history of mining and death in Death Valley, brought to life in films and talks. I’m sure there are more stars visible from here than anywhere else on Earth. This year, there is 5-bar cellphone service just about everywhere around this forsaken land, with internet service available at the Death Valley National Park Visitors Center. The huge overflow parking lot has been covered with crushed gravel, and the skies are not cloudy all day…. So much to see and do. The events and the music that start at early-morning breakfasts don’t stop until 9 or 10 at night. The cost of all this is reasonable, with your required membership in the Death Valley 49ers organization tax-deductible. Put it on your calendar... Read more
