We’ve been at the Conference produced by RVSEF this past week.

This conference was all about giving new RVers access to all the information they need to purchase the right rig, properly maintain it, and enjoy the lifestyle.  Seminars included: Fire Safety by Mac McCoy, Costs of Fulltiming by Howard and Linda Payne of RV-Dreams.com; RV Driving by Dennis Hill, Gas or Diesel Chassis by Workhorse; RV 12 Volt Systems by Gary Motley; Road Use Laws by Walter Cannon; RV Generator Maintenance by Gary Bunzer, and, of course several Computer-related seminars by Geeks on Tour, including our new seminar on GPS Navigation systems.  There were too many sessions to list here – I counted 66 titled sessions – you can see them all on the schedule page.

Here’s a short video to give you some inside scenes from the conference:

Having spent more than 33 years as an occupational safety professional with OSHA, I am glad to see that the safety topic was listed first. While our collective intent to enjoy camping, traveling and RVing in general it is crucial to everyone to be proactive, preventive and remember Safety First, it is not just a slogan!

What I would like to know is how to get more RVers to take this type of training. I have seen too many rigs travelling down the road that are obviously not safe.

Great report Chris! Is this going to be an annual event? How was the attendance?

This sounds great! Is there a website, and would you say this is going to replace the Life on Wheels [RIP Gaylord, and thanks for everything!] conferences? What was the cost? Thanks!

The website is http://www.rvsafety.com. You’ll see a menu item there for the conference. Future dates have not been set, but I know the intent is to offer the conference at least once/year – ideally twice – once on each side of the country. Although not specifically a continuation of Life on Wheels, the inspiration definitely comes from that program and the spirit of RV Education lives on.
The attendance for this first year was 61 people … quite a wonderful student teacher ratio with about 25 instructors! Although I’m sure it will grow – the intent is always to keep it small enough that attendees will get a LOT of value.
