RV Sliding Storage and Cargo Trays
May 31, 2009 by Mark Corgan · 6 Comments
Storage can be a problem with some RVs. Just where do you put all the “stuff” you think you need for that long weekend of camping? Most of us don’t pay much attention to all the things we store in our RV because we just might need that certain something someday. While some things are obviously important, like basic tools, WD40, food, clothing, the dog, etc., some things we could well leave behind. But if you must take everything but the kitchen sink (RVs already have those) with you, then storing it in a convenient place is going be high on your list. Adding storage and cargo trays to your RV can make all the difference on whether you have to dig through your stuff or just slide it out and it’s there in front of you. Read more Read More →
VIDEO: RV Camping in NEW YORK CITY?!
May 31, 2009 by Sean Michael · 11 Comments
On our Long Long Honeymoon, we’ve enjoyed our share of rustic camping locations. Places like Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and Glacier National Park come to mind. Getting back to nature is what camping’s all about, right? But what happens when we take our “condo on wheels” into an urban environment like NEW YORK CITY? Read more Read More →
Making Money with your Blog
May 31, 2009 by Chris Guld · 1 Comment
Do you have a blog with lots of readers? If so, you may be able to make some money by hosting ads from Google Adsense. If you do this, you will have no control over the exact ads that get displayed on your blog. Google scans the content of your blog, and displays ads appropriate to that content. For example, in our Geeks On Tour articles and links blog, we write a lot about Picasa and about Wi-Fi. At left is a sample of the ads that Google displays on that blog – all about Picasa and Wi-Fi. This makes it more likely that a reader will click on one of the ads, and every click represents a few pennies in the blog owner’s Adsense account. Don’t expect to get rich quick ok? We’ve had Google ads on our GOT blog for a couple years and we just now got our second $100 deposit from Google! We haven’t promoted this blog much and only have 50 – 100 visits/day. You really need at least 500/day to make noticeable money. If you get up to 3-4,000 visitors/day you can start planning retirement! How do you know how many visitors you have? That’s Google Analytics. You put a little piece of code at the bottom of your blog’s template, then Google analytics will know everytime someone visits. To put ads on your blog, first you need a Google Adsense account. You can sign up at Google.com/adsense. You’ll need to enter a website address, whether you’re getting a personal or a business account, and your bank account information. Once... Read more

Interesting new product
May 30, 2009 by Larry Cad · 7 Comments
Anytime I travel in the motorhome I take an LCD projector with me. I do this for several reasons. First, I use the projector in my work to give seminars on electrical safety. Second, I use the projector for viewing my photos. Third I like to project movies on the side of my motorhome for friends and family to enjoy, and finally, once a year the group I camp with gets together to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes play the Penn State Nittany Lions and we use the projector to view the football game on a large screen. I recently became aware of a new product on the market that attracted my interest. The Benq Joybee GP1 Mini Projector. On the surface this is a very clever tool, weighing in at 1.4 lbs. and fitting in the palm of your hand. Read more Read More →
Digging Deeper Into the CAFE Mileage Standards
May 30, 2009 by Bob Difley · 30 Comments
For those of you who think that the new CAFE mileage standards for cars and light trucks will have us trying to pull our trailers and fifth wheels with under-powered, inadequate toy trucks and driving around in little tin can-like Smart Cars, you can stop worrying. First of all, the standards call for an “average” of 35.5 mpg for all vehicles that fall into the car and light truck category. Larger vehicles will fall somewhere below the 35.5 mpg, while cars will average more than 40 mpg. An article by Joseph B.White this week in the Wall Street Journal outlines how those requiring larger vehicles–such as for towing heavy RVs–will still be able to buy them. Here is part of what he says: Read more Read More →
Travel the Civil Rights Trail in Tuskegee
May 30, 2009 by Christina Bullock · Leave a Comment
To get a true understanding of the cultural history of Alabama, one must visit Montgomery and Tuskegee to see the sites integral to the end of racial segregation. Before venturing to the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site on the Tuskegee University campus and the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site nearby, go to Selma. There you can journey down the Selma to Montgomery March Scenic Byway and cover the same path taken by peaceful Civil Rights activists to protest racial discrimination at the State Capitol in Montgomery. The 54-mile byway follows U.S. 80 past a number of historic sites and memorials, such as the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Civil Rights Memorial. From Montgomery it’s just a 45-minute drive on I-85 to Tuskegee. Read more Read More →

RV Weekly Round-Up (May 23-29, 2009)
May 29, 2009 by Christina Bullock · 3 Comments
Check out these highlights of RV-related news, events and video from this past week. 1. Shifting From Oil to Electric Power On the Road: Times they are a-changing for vehicle gas mileage rates. For the first time ever there is a nationwide standard for emissions of greenhouse gases. President Obama recently announced plans that would require cars and trucks to jump from the current average of 25 mpg to 35.5 mpg by 2016, with passenger cars obtaining 39 mpg and trucks obtaining 30 mpg, depending on the class and size. The plan also demands a one-third reduction in vehicle carbon-dioxide emissions within the next seven years. Read recent blog posts arguing for and against these stringent fuel efficiency mandates.
