Blogging to Alaska
Most RVers we know have either already driven to Alaska, or they want to drive to Alaska. Our friends, Greg and Marilyn Gundy drove there and spent over 3 months in 2007. They’ve been talking about it non-stop ever since and are going back … right now! The best part is that Greg is a writer, photographer, and avid Blogger. That means we can all go along!

In case you don’t know what a blog is … I’m talking about a travelogue that anyone can create on the web. Your own personal journal/photo album/travel map that you can allow anyone to see. It’s a fabulous way to keep in touch with friends and family you’ve left behind. And it’s surprisingly easy. Whenever you visit a Blog – you will see the most recent post (article) on top. As you scroll down, you will be going back in time.
Greg started blogging after taking one of our
‘Every RVer Needs a Blog’ class in November 2006. He’s kept up his posting every few days ever since. Every part of his blog is a good read – but the part about Alaska is full of a special kind of passion – a fever even. Their 2007 trip is chronicled in 37 posts (web pages) where they discuss more things to see and do in Alaska than you can imagine. As it turns out, they got the Gold Fever bad! They’ve even joined the Gold Prospector’s Ass’n of America.
Read the Current Blog – en route to Alaska:
If any of you are interested in the trip, I highly recommend reading the Gundyville blog. Just go to www.gundyville.blogspot.com to follow along with their current journey. Their plan for this summer is to Work-Camp at the Gold Camp in Chicken, Alaska.
Read the 2007 Blog – a complete Alaska RV trip:
To get the background, or plan for your own Alaska trip, I recommend you read the 2007 story by starting at the first post – the day they were at Mile 0 on the Alcan highway. When you get to the bottom of that one, just click on the link for ‘Newer Post’ and that will take you to the next page in the story. You can keep reading and clicking on ‘Newer Post’ to read the blog just like a book. (If the link doesn’t work for you, it may be because you’re using the Firefox browser – it works fine in Internet Explorer – no clue why?!)
Do you have an Alaska blog?:
I know that several others out there have blogs from their travels to Alaska. And even more will be going there this year and blogging about it. If that’s you – please leave a comment with your blog’s address so we can all enjoy the trip with you!
We haven’t done the trip … yet! But my family lived in Anchorage, Alaska from 1959 – 66 and you can see a few scanned photos on our 1966 RV trip. Even some photos from the 1964 Earthquake.

We were in Alaska on a 4 month trip in 2007. Our Blog is on http://goodsamclub.mytripjournal.com/millingtontravel
Enjoy our travels.
We are headed for Alaska right now 4-26-2009 to spend the summer on the Kenai Peninsula at Moose Pass workamping. We left Apache Junction, AZ on April 15, 2009 and hope to be in Moose Pass by mid May. You can follow our travels at our web site.
I made the trip last summer, not so much for siteseeing, but to catch fish.
I had a rv.net blog the whole 31/2 month trip.

This is very interesting. If there is a “downturn” in the economy someone forgot to tell all the folks with motorhomes. The Rally in Albuquerque was packed with foks that are all going places and I could not believe the people, like us, that are also going to Alaska this year. Many, again like us, taking off for Alaska right from The Rally. We will hit mile “0″ at the end of May. In Vegas right now (Sams Town) and heading to Bryce Canyon and Hwy 12 for a week. Then work our way up Interstate 15 into Canada and Calgary and meet another couple and their RV. Then we will check out Banff and Jasper and work our way up to Dawson Creek.
Based on reading and hearing what others have enjoyed, looks like we will be there for 4-5 months. Anyone else making the trip, would love to hear from you. Check out our blog http://www.jerryandmarynorthtoalaska.blogspot.com or email me at go2icon@netscape.net

Thank you both for posting these great blogs.
We drove to Alaska in our motorhome in 1988 and forgot to go back to the lower 48. We settled in North Pole, Alaska and love it. No real plans to leave. We have never been to any location (overseas or stateside) that we like as well as Alaska. Even got rid of motorhome and now have a slide-in pop-up and love it also.

Chris: I’m headed north the Alaska now and have been “glued” to Greg’s blog. He is doing an excellent job in detailing the current road conditions. I’m doing this trip solo with a 3/4 ton Chevy HD truck and a 19′ trailer. Made several upgrades to the RV including changing out the 14″ wheels/tires to 15″ with 8 ply tires; equalizer/stabilizer hitch also. But, I must admit I’m a bit apprehensive – I feel I am prepared as I can be, but there’s those unknowns….Greg’s blog helps a great deal. My blog is http://www.mytravels-cindy.blogspot.com.
I am also following your blog – excellent job. I’m using Picasa for my photos and have been reading the tips/tricks and receive your newsletter.
