Salton Sea Weekend Warriors (CA Camping)

February 25, 2009 by RV Today Archive · 6 Comments

Out in the California desert the crew of “RV Today” met up with a group of weekend warriors, a growing trend of RVers who like to take their toys with them on an adventure. Bringing their ATVs, motorcycles and dune buggies, the weekend warriors like the wide open spaces to explore and blaze new trails. These RVers shun the luxury resorts and boondock where there is plenty of space to roam. No better place to roam free than the California desert near the Salton Sea. digg_url = 'http://digg.com/travel_places/Salton_Sea_Weekend_Warriors'; The sea has been getting bad rep, but you’ll put all those bad rumors aside when you take in the scenic views of the water on the east side. For the weekend warrior there is no better place than the Salton Sea to spend a vacation four wheeling and blazing trails. View Larger Map  Read More →

A “Green RV” is 1/2 Technology and 1/2 Temperament

February 24, 2009 by Brian Brawdy · Leave a Comment

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, originating from the Old English word Grene, closely related to the verb growan meaning “to grow,” Green has traditionally described a color. Its meaning has found a way into science, religion, politics and culture. More recently the word has taken on a whole new definition as the leading term for what is considered environmentally friendly. Go Green, Green Washing and the Green Movement are all used frequently in today’s society. digg_url = 'http://digg.com/environment/Going_Green_is_1_2_Technology_and_1_2_Temperament'; Everywhere we look there are tips on how to Go Green in your home, office, food, transportation, leisure. Headlines in the media daily reflect this phenomena including one this week from The City of Chicago, promising the ‘Greenest Olympics‘ in their bid for the 2016 summer games. In every industry, RVing being just one of many (I hope), “Green” it’s NOT a prototype, it’s a philosophy. It’s NOT mechanical, it’s a mindset, it’s NOT a technical diagram of some sort, it’s a temperament. It is NOT a blueprint, it’s a belief that one person can make a difference. Green is a way of looking at things. I am very excited to read all the great articles in recent months about the “Green RV” and the push of other RVers to Go Green. SolTrekker, bioTrekker, Live Lightly, Verdier Eco-Camper, Mobile Base Camp and the like, are all designed to push the current edge of reduced carbon... Read more

Keep your cool – summer is coming.

February 24, 2009 by Fred Brandeberry · 10 Comments

KEEP YOUR COOL: Ideas to help keep our food cool with the Refrigerator turned off on a travel day or on a HOT day. FIRE SAFETY TIP: Do not leave your LP gas on while traveling. If an accident occurs, the LP gas will not be adding fuel to the fire. Use a Battery operated fan inside your refrigerator. This distributes the cool air to other parts of the refrigerator. Install a Remote Digital Thermometer outside your refrigerator. Use a wire tie to secure the sensor to the top shelf. A 40 F degree temperature is the best. You can tell how well your refrigerator is doing without opening the door. Cool air falls to the floor when you open the refrigerator door. Hot air rises. Place a 12 VDC – 4” Fan under the refer vent – mounted on the bird screen with a wire tie. Add a 105F degree thermostat, ON/OFF switch, and certainly an in-line fuse to this circuit. Measure from the cooling coils in back of your refer to the inside surface of your RV wall. If this space is too great. Install a barrier on the top edge of the outside opening to force the air to flow across your cooling coils. We used a piece of vinyl siding. See the Refrigerator Manufacturers INSTALLATION Instructions for the proper spacing. The refrigerator is designed for a certain Air Flow (CFM) for maximum efficiency. Do not add uncooled, or unfrozen items until late in the day to allow your refer to catch up. The day before a move day, turn your refer to the coldest temperature possible. (Some models do not have this... Read more

Top 10 RV Selling Tips

February 24, 2009 by rvSearch.com · 1 Comment

Written by Christina Bullock When selling your RV, basic planning and preparation go a long way to getting a better sale price. With a little effort, your RV can really shine like new and dazzle those buyers. Once you’ve got your rig ready to show off, list it for sale on rvSearch.com to reach thousands of buyers across the U.S. and Canada. 10. Clear away personal items from your rig to show off how much space it has. Buyers will be much better able to visualize how they will use the space, which will increase their interest. 9. Include photos with your listing to show buyers how great your rig is and pique their interest in seeing it in person. 8. Set a realistic sale price for the quality of your rig within local market ranges. If your list price is too high, some buyers may walk away rather than haggle with you. 7. Take out ads in several places: local newspaper, online classifieds, community bulletin boards, etc. The greater the exposure the more potential buyers you’ll have. 6. Clean your rig until it sparkles–inside and out. A detailed once-over can get you top dollar when you rig looks new again. Consider hiring a professional cleaning service if the task seems overwhelming. 5. Use an escrow firm to exchange goods between you and the buyer to avoid scams. 4. Pick a spot to display your RV for interested buyers to take a peek. Main roads and large parking lots are great for pass-by traffic. Interested parties can then call you to check out the interior. 3.... Read more

February 23, 2009 by Mark Polk · 17 Comments

There is a real concern about what the future holds for RV dump stations. RV dump stations everywhere are closing down operation because of several reasons. Some, but not all of these reasons are the costs and headaches involved to keep them operating and properly maintained, the wrong types of chemical treatments used by RVers, and because of neglect and poor housekeeping by RVers who use these dump stations.
