A digital camera can be used to record all kinds of information: Read more  Read More →

A Going Green Contest? Put On Your Green Thinking Cap

February 28, 2009 by Bob Difley · 4 Comments

Of all the subjects that I post to this blog, “green” gets the most comments. Certain sub-subjects within the main green category, like global warming, drill or not to drill, and development of alternative energy generate the largest quantity and most emotional comments. Many of those who do not believe global warming is a reality use words like scam, fraud, Al Gore, and hoax in the same sentence. Those who do thing climate change is a concern treat the words Bush, big oil, and coal as pejorative terms and offer tips for combating the warming of the planet. Whether to drill to tap into domestic oil reserves or not also arouses strong feelings within the commenters, as does the expenditure of lots of money to develop alternative sources of energy when the price of oil is hitting new lows and we don’t–at least at present prices–have to dip into our grandchildren’s college fund to fill the gas tank. Funny thing, though. No matter which side of the green issue the commenters are on, a large majority of them claim to be conservation minded, do some recycling, do less driving, and try not to pollute. There are a few, however, that feel that they have earned the right to do whatever they want now that they have reached a comfortable age and comfortable level of financial independence, but they are the minority, even among the most anti-green.  But for the rest of you, there is an opportunity coming up to show your stuff. I am referring to the Going... Read more

National Parks: Hot Springs, Arkansas

February 28, 2009 by Christina Bullock · 3 Comments

Thank you to local resident jim Rose for bringing this beautiful natural area to my attention. I’ll rely on you to fill us all in on anything I left out, especially if you have any local spots or pastimes that shouldn’t be missed! Hot Springs National Park is the nation’s first resort, established in 1832 as a national reservation (designated a national park in 1921-as pointed out by Dennis & RoseMary). Congress set aside this area in the Ouachita Mountains (about 30 miles southwest of Little Rock) to protect the 47 natural thermal springs, thereby creating “America’s Spa”. Water naturally heated to 143°F bubbles up from Hot Springs Mountain every day. For centuries people have come to the area to bathe in these healing mineral waters. Warring Native American tribes considered the area to be neutral territory where all could enjoy the waters in peace. digg_url = 'http://digg.com/travel_places/National_Parks_Hot_Springs_Arkansas';Hot Springs is also known for being the boyhood hometown of former President Bill Clinton. While visiting the area you can see where Clinton went to school and experience some of the resort town charm that influenced Clinton’s early years and set him on the path to leadership. Things to Do and See: After a luxurious soak at the baths, take a leisurely stroll through downtown Hot Springs to do some boutique shopping or antiquing. Then take in a musical stage concert or theatrical performance following a break for dinner at one of the... Read more

Hi ladies!

February 27, 2009 by Jaimie Hall Bruzenak · 19 Comments

I have been asked to join the bloggers posting at “A Woman’s View.” I’m excited about the opportunity to have conversations on topics that relate to women and RVing. I made a short video to watch and eagerly await your suggestions for topics and comments. In the video, I mention that Alice and I led a workshop at a recent RV rally on RVing from the woman’s perspective. In our Roundtable Discussion, women made several suggestions for living with a mate 24/7. Here are the first five: Tell your partner, “I need alone time.” It is not your responsibility if his feelings are hurt. I need a “Kay” day (after Kay Peterson’s “Living in a Sardine Can” talks). Good, nonthreatening signal that you need alone time. Pack your partner a lunch. The number of sandwiches indicates how long he should be gone! Make sure he knows he needs to find a way to entertain himself at times. Find women to talk to at RV rallies or in an RV park. Put up a note at an RV park inviting women to join you in the club house or in front of your rig at a certain time. In one RV group I belong to, we usually have one or more women’s group meetings. Any other suggestions? Until the next time, safe travels. Jaimie  Read More →

With hot and humid conditions it can be hard to keep away mildew, but this video offers you a tip to keep the mildew away using a bucket of salt. Inside the RV the hardest decision can be on what brand of toilet paper to but that will be easy to flush.
