RV Doctor – Stuck Antifreeze Check Valve

January 29, 2009 by Gary Bunzer · 4 Comments

Dear Gary, I was winterizing my RV and pushed on the check valve in the city fill to let the antifreeze out but the antifreeze kept flowing out. I had to run and turn the pump off. Is the check valve broken now or did it snap out of place? If it is broken, can I just replace the valve? It’s a brand new RV! –Kim Young, (Mundelien, IL) Read more  Read More →

Campsite Solar Light Tip

January 28, 2009 by Tony Cornett · 9 Comments

Well it was some time back (’06) that I did a tech tip on RV Today with Stew and Tracy about solar campsite lights. I thought I’d bring it up again. It was so well received I added it to my RV Tech Tip book. At the time I had Direcway Satellite tripod set up and it sat away from my RV a bit and wanted the thing visible for safety and other reasons. I was at Home depot one day as saw these outdoor 3 tier solar lights for $29.95 a pair. I bought a pair and used one under my tripod and put the other by my door steps. They worked so well I went back and got another pair and placed them strategically around my campsite. I had a ton of people asking me about them and where I got them. The nice thing was being a host on the beach they were made of aluminum. They came with little hard plastic stakes you drove in the ground, but being mobile and maybe wanting to move them around I came up with a better idea. Read more  Read More →

Mother Nature is Watching

January 28, 2009 by Brian Brawdy · 3 Comments

Welcome, I’m Brian Brawdy. It is truly an honor to participate in the RV.net family. Truth be told, most everyone reading this post possesses a significantly greater wealth of experience than I do. Most of my mentors in this industry have been at it for 35 years or more. I’ve been at it a little over 35 weeks now. I can clearly remember the first time I dumped my black and grey tanks, having to do so with my owners manual nearby as a reference. I am far from an expert on most things ‘RV.’ That said, in my opening 11 months I did manage to explore 48 states, appear on over 80 live television news broadcasts while recording 50,000 miles on my Rig. I call it the ‘Mobile Base Camp’ for a simple reason. Driving as far as I could off the beaten path, I’d set out to explore from there. Hiking, biking, climbing, backpacking or kayaking my way as far into the wilderness as possible, and then returning to my RV at journey’s end. Taking the roughing it out of roughing it, I like to say. Read more  Read More →

Marching To Our Own Drumbeat

January 27, 2009 by Lynn Difley · 5 Comments

“You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way and the only way, it does not exist” Fredrich Nietzsche. Well said, Fred. Could apply in many cases, but just now I am thinking of it in regards to exercise. I have taught exercise for most of my adult life and I know without a doubt, that it is true, one man’s thrill is another’s torture. Each of us must find our own expression, our own way of moving. What I do know is that it is imperative that you do find your way. Our bodies were designed for moving. When they are forced for long hours into sedentary mode, they clog up, stiffen up and break down. Our muscles, joints, and cardiovascular system are a fantastic and efficient invention. Every connection is uniquely designed for maximum movement and can be developed in order to achieve excellence. Muscles need to work in order to stay healthy. Walking itself, the most basic of movement forms is a marvel of engineering. Have you ever considered how it is that we can move, at times with such breathtaking grace and speed from one place to another? We only have two legs, which can be considered a detriment, from an engineering point of view. Our tall angular skeletal system, perched precariously above two narrow legs seems a ridiculous design for forward propulsion. But does it ever work well. Witness the super distance runs being accomplished these days, hundreds of miles over rough, unfriendly terrain, continuing to break previous records for distance... Read more

RV Doctor – Battery Won’t Hold Charge

January 26, 2009 by Gary Bunzer · 4 Comments

Dear RV Doctor, My parents have a 1990 Cobra Class A motorhome with a problem. There is something going on between the alternator and the battery; the battery will not hold a charge. If you use the wipers or headlights or anything like that while driving you lose battery power until the whole thing dies. They have replaced the alternator, the battery and (we believe) the inverter, yet the problem persists. They currently have the whole thing jerry-rigged with a battery charger that is hooked into the generator. Any thoughts on what else could be causing the problem? –Kelly Barnes, (Brunswick, OH) Read more  Read More →
