When we first started living in our RV, we scoffed at rigs sporting various kitsch, from oh-too-cutesy stuffed animals clinging to the ladder in back, to lawn gnomes perched precariously on the steps, to custom wooden signs in the windshield announcing the owner’s name and hometown, usually with some little logo signifying a favorite pastime, like a fishing pole, golf club, or bowling pin.

We had promised ourselves, therefore, that we would never stoop to such tacky displays, but then, like Ebenezer Scrooge forced to see the ghost of RVs past, we had a change of heart one Christmas Eve in Key West. As we strolled in the dark amongst rigs lit up with holiday cheer from two-story, blow-up, glowing Santas, to palm trees strung with colored lights, to life-sized, nodding, fluorescent flamingos, we could not help but smile and laugh at the whimsy of it all. Then we hit upon a rig that had nothing – not even a lone blinking white light –and exclaimed in unison, “What a grinch!” Then, upon closer inspection, “Hey! That’s our rig!”

We’ll be decorating our rig this year.

This is our first winter season in our RV and the resort we are staying at has just exploded with beautiful Christmas decorations. Every night since Thanksgiving more and more sights to behold on our evening walks. I just wonder where they store it all in their rigs! I feel so out of place with the little 2ft. tree with little ornaments I brought along with NO LIGHTS. Now I guess I’m the Grinch, but I won’t take me long to put it away. How about the electric bill?

    Overkill!

Christmas isn’t about lights and shiny ornaments, although we always display some. I can understand, however, that if we were in a place where everyone else has put up a gaudy display, we’d feel a little underwhelmed by our own modest decorations.

But we celebrate Christmas in our own way, very quietly, remembering the “reason for the season.”

This comment is just why we steer clear of “most” ppl in these rvs! To good for everyone or everything. I betcha you watch out the window for the owner to clean their little dogs poop up too.
