The picture shown, claimed to be Cape Disappointment Light, is actually the North Head Light. It was probably taken from atop the north jetty at the mouth of the Columbia River, looking north.

Great picture! I live and work here, and my company started with a Lewis & Clark map, so I was especially pleased to see your post.
September is a darn fine month here. The families have mostly gone back home, though there is another month of fairly dry and warm weather with less crowds.

Might be a good note to make.

[...] Ron Dalby has a post about Cape Disappointment, and the newest National Park, the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. I hadn’t heard of that before, but we’ve been to Cape Disappointment State Park in Southwest Washington, at the mouth of the Columbia River. This is where Lewis and Clark first saw the Pacific Ocean, although they wintered on the Oregon side. Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington; Fort Clatsop in Oregon, where the Corps spent the winter; and several other sites in both states are now part of the nation’s newest national park, Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. Best to visit in the summer when there is the potential for a break in the incessant rain that otherwise pervades this part of the country. [...]
