So, how do you tell what age your generator is? I have an Onan 4000 and have the manual from when we got it and it has nothing about the type filter to use or where it is. Even the Onan website won't give you the part numbers you need to change things out, they want you to buy a manual, not a bad idea, but why should I have too? My Onan is the KY, so any help I can get would be lots a help!!!

When I had my own highway tractor, I used 15-40 rotella with a friction reducing additive and served me well for 150,000 miles per year.

This summer I tried synthetic oil in my C class and noticed a significant improvement in performance and fuel mileage. The 460 cu.in. purred after adding this oil for the first time. I also run synthethic in the transmission and rear-end and recently in wife's car.

May I edit my 1st comment, The best lubrication is always the TRUTH, because all the petroleum products are becoming too expensive to justify. God help the RV industry. Maybe timeshare in nice MH are the answer. $4.00 a gallon Diesel in a 6MPG MH is a heartbreaking thing. It makes one want a 25FT toybox instead, with a gas powered truck. Its a crying shame to give all that money to the middle east to never be recovered. Maybe we just need the chance to voice our own opinions instead of so much distrust in the world. Maybe fulltimers look at it differently.

Very simple, if it's a diesel use the same oil as you do in the chassis engine. I believe most use Rotella 15w40.
