Barry,
The main benefit of using Outlook Express - or any client-based email software - is that you can work offline. You can compose your email at any time, then send it all when you have an Internet connection. Your newly received email will be downloaded to your computer whenever you are online, then you can read it offline at your leisure. If your computer is always on the Internet - like at home with DSL or Cable - then the only benefit is the features of the software itself. Many of us learned on Outlook and are accustomed to the way it works.

I do not use Outlook Express for my e-mail because frankly it was beyond my comprehension to set it up in the beginning. When it came to the POP3 thing I gave up. I had no idea what either one of those things meant. So, I use AOL's e-mail on the road and home. My question is what benefit is there to using Outlook Express over any other e-mail service?

I explained the problem to my ISP that those of us in our community have with SMTP being rejected while on road and they opened a new port we can use (61025). It solved the problem very nicely for all of us for last several years.
