On the Trail…in Hatteras, North Carolina

Pastel cabins

Tourists flock to the Outer Banks of North Carolina every summer, and with good reasons: mile after mile of sandy beaches fronting the Atlantic Ocean on the east and both Pamlico and Albemarle sounds on the west.

Outside the towns, most of the buildings are vacation rentals with ocean views, not a real problem when nothing built on these over-sized sandbars is much more that a couple hundred yards from the water. The most intriguing thing, though, are the colors used for these houses and cabins–bright, bold colors that you would never think of using for your house back home.

We found these cabins next to a Good Sam RV park not far from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. I couldn’t resist taking this picture right out the window of our towed vehicle.

We loved going down to Hattaras from NJ. Can anyone recommend a good campground to stay at.

    Thanks,
