I am a newbee when it comes to Rv. I am looking at a 06 hurricane 31D that does not come with jacks at all. Should I be concerned? Should I add leveling jacks and what type would would you suggest?

thanks

I am my husband's assistant when leveling and we have found that if we use walkie talkies to communicate, it saves us time and embarrassment from yelling back and forth.

Most manufacturers will tell you to always level your unit before extending slides and to never try to re-adjust once the slides are out. Unless your instructions are different I think this is a critical aspect of the leveling process.

Also, one thing that goes a long way to prevent frame twisting are jacks that only operate in pairs (front, rear, left and right). I believe that all newer HWH levelers incorporate that feature, at least my class c kickdowns do.

We have a similar question. Our 2008 Holiday Rambler Admiral manual says that if you lift a a wheel off the ground, be sure to chalk the opposite wheel. Nothing about, "don't do it." With the lawyers involved, I'd guess if there were any issues at all, they'd have a big bold warning.

Great advice! I really like the idea of pulling onto the leveling blocks and not backing onto them, we always have that problem!

Dear Mike --

You wrote:

> However, never lift the RV so high that any of the tires are
> off of the ground. If you find yourself putting blocks of wood,
> plastic pads or rocks under the jacks to get them high enough
> for leveling move to a more level parking spot.

What about the situation where there's no need to put any blocks, etc. under the jacks in order to level (in our case) a class A motorhome, but the jacks lift the coach far enough that one or two wheels are off the ground? This happens to us regularly at a number of campgrounds that we visit once or twice a year.

In fact, when I bring the coach to our house for a few hours to load or unload it, and parallel park at our curb, I use the levelers to keep the fridge level because it's generally running. Ahough there isn't a particularly high crown on the street in front of our house, my right front tire is about 4-6" off the ground when the coach is level here.

What do you recommend in these situations?

Thanks!
